Halloween SAFETY for Cats🧙♀️
From costumes to candles, Halloween can be spooky for cats! Here’s Love Cats Croydons tips on how to keep your cats safe, happy, and out of trouble this spooky season:
🖤 1. Skip the Costumes
Dressing cats up might look cute (on Instagram?!) but it can cause your cat distress or even restrict their breathing. How about trying some photos with seasonal props? Pumpkins, spooky backdrops, tfluffy spiders…for a “purrfect” Halloween pic without the stress for your fur baby.
🕸️ 2. Keep Cats Indoors on Trick-or-Treat Night
The constant knocks, doorbells, and strange costumes can be overwhelming. If your cat goes outdoors, bring them in early and close curtains to help them feel secure. A little extra playtime or a few treats can help distract them from the commotion.
🧛 3. Check Your Cats Microchip
Microchipping is now a legal requirement in the UK. Yes even for indoor cats. So PLEASE make sure your cat is microchipped. AND that the chip is registered to your current address (you would be surprised how many owners we find thinking their doing the rght thing, only to realise their cats chip is still registered at an old address or with a previous fosterer) While on the subject of ID - you could think about adding and ID tag if your cat wears a collar too.
🕯️ 4. Be Cautious With Candles and Decorations
Pumpkin candles, fairy lights, and hanging decorations can all be kitty cat hazards. Keep flames out of reach or use battery powered ones? And please always avoid dangly decs, wires, or hot light bulbs where curious paws might tangle.
🎃 5. Cats before candy!
Remember - Chocolate and sweets are toxic to cats. So keep the trick-or-treat stash securely out of reach. Even the wrappers can cause problems if chewed or swallowed. More for me (dont share!) Hahaha
If you’re away during Halloween, our cat sitters can keep your cats safely indoors, feed and comfort them through the chaos, and send you daily updates (complete with adorable spooky-themed photos, of course).
We’ll make sure it’s treats only — no tricks allowed.
